The Azerbaijani delegation is now engaged in discussions to investigate worldwide practices for countering the danger of landmines and explosive ordnance in various Southeast Asian nations and the purpose of these sessions is to exchange knowledge and inform the global community about the ongoing issue of landmines in Azerbaijan, AzVision.az reports citing ANAMA.

It is noted that within the framework of the visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, a meeting was organized between the representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for special assignments Elchin Amirbayov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency Vugar Suleymanov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Agency Samir Poladov with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith.

Besides, the Azerbaijani delegation held a meeting with the Acting Director of the Lao National Regulatory Authority for Combating Mine Threats and Unexploded Ordnance Bonphang Sisavats. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Lao National Program on Unexploded Ordnance.

To note, for ages, Laos has been walking on thin ice, dealing with the constant threat of unexploded ordnance, and both aforesaid organizations have extensive experience in the detection and clearance of mostly unexploded ordnance. The meetings also touched upon the importance of mutual exchange of experience and learning from each other's achievements in this field.

The purpose of the meetings was to explore international efforts to combat the threat of mines and unexploded ordnance, best practices, assess opportunities for joint training, exchange experiences, and establish direct and close ties.

The Azerbaijani delegation was informed about the mass contamination of explosive device-free lands and large-scale demining to eliminate the problem during the discussions. International resources, relationships, and experience and training in mine and unexploded ordnance combat were stressed.

Meetings within the framework of the visit are ongoing.
